How to Bathe Your Dog at Home

Gather Supplies

Have ready dog shampoo, towels, washcloths, brush, cotton balls for ears, and tasty treats before bathing. Prepare the area.

Wet Your Dog

Use a detachable showerhead or cup to thoroughly wet your dog's coat before shampooing. Avoid getting water in ears.

Apply Shampoo

Put a small amount of veterinarian-recommended dog shampoo in hands, work into a lather

Rinse Well

Rinse all shampoo residue from your dog's coat, skin, ears, and paws. Check for any remaining shampoo suds.

Dry Your Dog

Pat your dog with towels to absorb moisture. Use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to speed drying. Brush as you dry.

Clean Ears & Nails

Use cotton balls to gently clean inside ear flaps. Trim nails if needed after bathing when they are soft.

Brush Regularly

Brush several times per week to distribute oils and remove shedding fur between baths.
